If there is a presidential library in a city we’re visiting, we try to make time to check it out. We have been to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum and Library in Grand Rapids, Mich., Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atl. Last summer we toured the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum in Little Rock, Ark.
When I was looking for a souvenir in the museum store, the clerk showed me a book that was written by one of the museum volunteers – Jesse Gatewood, who happened to be working that day. He also was named Museum Volunteer of the Year in 2022.
His book, titled Lewis & Lillie: Because They Met, is about his life from a young child to now. He writes about the several people who have impacted him, including his parents and his coach. It is really interesting to read about others’ lives, especially ones who grew up in a time period where life was much different.
I was delighted when he agreed to do an interview, and it was a joy talking with him about being volunteering, meeting President Clinton, his childhood memories and the inspiration behind his book.
Unfortunately, Jesse Gatewood passed away before I was able to post our interview. You can still check out our conversation.
