Sonia Sotomayor was the first Latina American to become a Supreme Court Justice! And she still is!
She wrote a children’s book about her life called Turning Pages: My Life Story. She writes how she hated having to get shots every day because of her diabetes. Once, she even hid under a parked car to avoid it! Justice Sotomayor also writes about how how books taught her so many things. For instance, reading the book Lord of the Flies really made her understand why we need rules. (I love how books can make people more aware of things that matter.)
I really like Turning Pages because it shows how Justice Sotomayor’s life revolved around books, such as the Bible, Lord of the Flies and Nancy Drew. She got inspired by these books, and that’s super cool. I’m inspired by books too. That’s why I want to be an author!
It was neat to see the imagery of all the metaphors on every page of Turning Pages. It made it clear that Justice Sotomayor really loved books and they helped her become who she is today. It is so hard to pick my favorite metaphor from the book, but I feel the same way she does about this one: “Books were my launchpad, blasting me straight into my dreams.”
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to know what Justice Sotomayor has to say about herself. This book also is great for anyone who needs inspiration on what to be when they grow up.
I really liked this book. It gets 3 out of 4 roses.
