Review: Will Smith’s Book About Fatherhood Reminds Me Of My Dad, Brother

Posted by

If you spend a lot of time with your dad, you might like this book by actor and singer Will Smith called Just the Two of Us. From the perspective of a loving father, Will Smith creates a powerful poem that shows how much he loves his son.

One thing I learned was that the words in the book were actually the same lyrics as Will Smith’s song, “Just The Two Of Us.” The lyrics and beautiful pictures by Kadir Nelson tell a beautiful story.

From the moment his son stepped into the world, the father loved him. Every night he would just watch the little boy in awe, praying he would be a good dad to him. As the boy grew older, the father told the son of the things to come: a cute girl, bullies and how he would have to choose to stand up for what’s right.

I enjoyed this book because it showed a strong father-son bond. It reminded me of my dad and my brother. I really liked the vivid illustrations, too. They are cartoony and realistic at the same time.

I recommend this book to readers who like poems. Kids and adults would both like this book, but ages five to seven would really love it.

This book gets 3 out of 4 roses!

  1. “Cartoony and realistic at the same time.” I can totally picture that. Another great review, Elena!
