Note From Elena Reads: When she’s not doing schoolwork or spending time with her family, Vedika Budhraja is reading. She loves fantasy series such as Percy Jackson and The Olympians, Harry Potter, and The School For Good And Evil. So, I was surprised when the book she chose for her guest blog was a realistic fiction novel. Read her thoughts on the book below!

By Vedika Budhraja, age 13

One For The Murphys, by Lynda Mullaly Hunt, is about a 12-year-old girl named Carley Conners. In this realistic fiction novel, she was just transferred to a foster home. The Murphys are a happy family with three boys. But coming from her mother’s betrayal, Carley has a question: Do happy family really exist?

What I LOVED about the book is the realism inside of it! Things like: friendship problems, learning to trust, and hard surroundings. Carley had a hard time completely warming up to the family because of the traumas she had experienced beforehand. But with giving the family a chance, she had learned a lot and they helped her with many other real-life situations that she had. Just by taking the effort of getting to know someone can really help you solve a lot of other problems that happened in your life.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has troubles they need help with in their current situation. This book not only has an interesting story, but has a lot of good advice. Just talking to someone can really help you.

I give it four out of four roses.
