According to a legend, there is a beautiful place where enchanted forest paths lie and gentle laughter floats like bells across the lake. This gorgeous place is called Leelanau, the land of delight. Plus, it’s about Michigan, where I live.
According to the book, The Legend Of Leelanau, there is a giril who never wanted to grow up, like Peter Pan. So she ran away to this a magical spiritual world. According to the legend people can still feel her words and laughter to this day.
The Legend of Leelanau is the captivating story retold by Kathy-jo Wargin, with lovely illustrations by Gijsbert van Frankenhuyzen. This story is based on Leelanau County, in Michigan! I have never been, but I’ll have to put it on my list!
I liked how the pictures added a whimsical touch to the story. Plus, the author really knew how to convey emotions in her words. Overall, reading the book was a compelling experience, all of the words and pictures so wonderfully powerful.
This book is great for Michigan residents who want to learn more about their state. Sleeping Bear Press, the publisher, publishes many stories about legends in the Mitten State.
Young kids will enjoy the fairytale-like story as well.
Four out of four roses!
