One of my favorite types of writing is verse.
I’ve always liked poetry, having read Emily Dickinson and Shel Silverstein in elementary school, but it wasn’t until I read Jacqueline Woodson’s Brown Girl Dreaming that I became in awe of the way poems dance across the pages. Ever since then, I’ve written many poems and I continue to be passionate about poetry.
I’m planning to share some of my poetry at an open mic event I’m hosting next week in metro Detroit. It would be cool if you would share yours, too!
If you love poetry, please join me on Monday, July 18. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Farmington Community Library – Main Campus, 32737 West 12 Mile Road, Farmington Hills.
Please click the link below to sign up to read your poem or just to attend. Space is limited.

This came about because this summer I participated in Innovation Lab, a camp for students to work on a passion project. For two weeks, several of us worked hard to plan and organize something that we were passionate about. I decided to host this poetry night.
I chose this project because I believe that words are powerful, and we can express our thoughts and feelings with these words and create masterpieces.
I look forward to seeing you at my poetry night event!
This sounds amazing! I’m so proud of you. I look forward to hearing how it turns out. -Shana
